The college occupies 3 storeys of the iconic CN Tower in Edmonton and is primarily focused on training medical, legal and business professionals. The college area integrates offices, student learning spaces and common working areas into the unique shell of the building. Next was engaged to design the interior spaces of the college to suit their unique needs.
The project included planning out the floorplates for the high efficiency requirements of the training college, by providing a mix of offices, collaboration rooms, work rooms and classrooms. In this non-traditional training centre, learning areas are generally smaller and highlight collaboration and group learning. These requirements had to be slotted into a building with older existing infrastructure, and fully coordinated with the subtle but unique exterior envelope. The team used a unified Virtual Design + Construction model to coordinate existing mechanical, structural and architectural with the new design. This approach ensured the tracking of all areas of potential risk before starting construction.
